This time around, it involved a 24-year-old employee of a fire consultancy and engineering company located in the heart of Asawasi. The deceased, Clement Opoku, tragically lost his life when a fire extinguisher he was working on accidentally exploded yesterday morning around 10.00am.
Regrettably, the body of the deceased, especially the head, was split into pieces when the fire extinguisher unexpectedly detonated. The impact of the explosion was so high that the whole head of the deceased was split into pieces, compelling the police officers who came to the scene to use a shovel to gather and put them in a black polythene bag.
Another worker of the company which is located very close to the central mosque in Kumasi, Charles Yibor, told DAILY GUIDE that they all reported to work in the morning and were working on their respective duties as usual. He narrated that the deceased was working on a faulty fire extinguisher which had been sent to the place from Bolgatanga in the Upper East region for maintenance.
Yibor disclosed that the deceased, who was an expert in the business, had finished working on the fire extinguisher and was in the process of fixing the holes on it when the disaster struck.
According to him, immediately the deceased approached the repaired fire extinguisher and attempted to fix the holes, the device surprisingly blew up, with the impact catching the deceased mainly on the face.
Yibor, who looked shocked to the marrow, told Daily Guide that the force behind the explosion was so huge that it lifted the deceased high up, and he came crashing to the ground.
The eyewitness noted that Clement died instantly, with his head splitting completely, thereby exposing the inner elements. Amid sobs, the devastated co-worker who indicated that their master was not in when the tragic incident occurred, said his colleagues had deserted the workplace, out of shock.
When Daily Guide went to the accident scene, a large crowd of anxious spectators had gathered there, and the body of the deceased covered with a cloth. Confounded by the horrific sight, those who stormed the place wailed uncontrollably, even though they did not know the deceased. The sorrowful atmosphere got electrified when a relative of the deceased, who hails from Bekwai Assanso in the Amansie East district of the Ashanti region, appeared on the scene.
The light-skinned woman wept hysterically to the extent that some good Samaritans had to restrain her from throwing herself onto the streets for another untold story to unfold. The large number of people including journalists who were at the scene could not hold back their tears when a vehicle finally arrived to transport the remains of the deceased to the mortuary.
