The police officer, Corporal David Dzokoto, is alleged to have been assaulted by some soldiers following an argument over a parking space.
The soldiers said the police officer was drunk and behaved irresponsibly.
But speaking on Joy FM’s Super morning show, Col. Mbawine Atintande explained that the police officer’s car was in the path of a military convoy which was returning from training.
He emphasised that the policeman was not in uniform and that could have partly caused the incident.
The soldiers admitted to heckling Cpl. Dzokoto but Col. Atintande said it was unacceptable for them to do that, saying they probably used the word heckling without thinking about the actual import of the word.
The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho in the Volta Region has justified its maltreatment of a police officer there.
Corporal David Dzokoto is alleged to have been assaulted last Friday by soldiers from the 66 Artillery regiment.
According to Cpl. Dzokoto, the soldiers slapped him following an argument over a parking space and also smashed his car.
But the soldiers have defended their action
