Upper West Region hits 90% in census coverage

The Upper West Region has so far achieved about 90 per cent total coverage northern ghanain the ongoing 2010 Population and Housing Census Exercise, Mr. Francis Nyarko-Larbi, the Regional Statistician has said.

He said currently a considerable number of enumerators had finished their assignments and had been directed to assist their struggling colleagues to wrap up.

Mr. Nyarko-Larbi who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday at Wa, noted that hopefully by next Sunday, all enumerators in the region would have completed the exercise.

He said currently, few people were still complaining that they had not yet been enumerated and advised that they should exercise patience because enumerators would soon knock on their doors.

The Regional Statistician said some of the enumerators had decided to embark on the list and enumerate approach while others also resorted to listing all households before enumeration.

He said either of the methods was accepted, saying people should not conclude that they would not be counted because they had not yet seen the census mark on their walls.

Mr. Nyako-Larbi noted that the initial complaints raised by some sections of the public regarding the exercise had been successfully managed and that all were now happy and participating in the exercise.

He commended the enumerators and the supervisors for staying focus despite the little hiccup with regards to the shortage in household questionnaire.
