The incident is reported to have occurred at about 2:30 am on a sharp curve between Akomadan and Edinkasu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.
One of the buses with registration number GC 4818 Z, was said to be returning from Kumasi with 25 passengers on board, while the other bus with registration number GN 2673-10 was on its way to Kumasi from Bolgatanga.
An officer with the Kumasi District police, Thilbert Zubeviel who confirmed the incident to Citi News said the accident squad of the police rushed to the scene at dawn after it had received information about the accident.
He said both buses had slipped into a gutter with passengers wailing and weeping when the men arrived at the scene.
He said the victims were rescued from the rickety buses with the assistance of fire service personnel from Offinso and Kumasi after which they were dispatched to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman.
“About thirty-five people were removed and also rushed to Nkinkaso Hospital. Out of the thirty, 15 have been confirmed dead, ten have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, six have been treated and discharged with four still on admission” he said.
Among the dead were the drivers of both buses and a one year-old baby girl, according to ASP Zubeviel.
ASP Zubeviel who was speaking to Citi News from the accident scene said the mess has been cleared to allow free flow of vehicular movement.
He disclosed that some fifty-four animals made up of goats and sheep have also been rescued from the car.
The animals have been handed over to the owner after he produced receipts covering them.
