University (Katanga) Hall interdicts President

University(Katanga) Hall

The president of the University (Katanga) Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been asked to vacate his position pending investigations over gross neglect of duties and shirking of responsibilities.
In a letter, Mr. Ekpor Enyimah Ackah has been requested to put an abrupt stop to the performance of any official duties as the hall’s president until the Disciplinary Committee of the hall is done with its investigations.
Mr. Ackah, a final year Agricultural Science student, came under fire last semester following a myriad of allegations brought up against him by a group which called itself “Concerned Katangees” led by Mr. Samuel Mensah.
Among the allegation leveled against Mr. Ackah include shirking of responsibilities as president of the hall and leaving to contest for the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) president at a congress in Wa without prior notice to other executives of the Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC).
The group also stated that the president was not present to address freshmen who were solicitous at hearing from him during their orientation.
This latest development in the hall does not come as a surprise to many after Mr. Ackah survived an impeachment in September last year for the same allegations.
Deep throat sources also intimate that Mr. Ackah takes unilateral decisions. Prior to vacation last semester, a programme dubbed “Fellowfesto,” which was aimed to “charge” for Christ and thank God for the semesters, was cancelled due to communication lapses between the president and other executives.
So far, all is set to hold a General Meeting on Friday, January 21, 2011 to appoint an interim president to act in his stead.
